Weekly Wrestler Spotlight : TJ Marconi

marconiFunkenstein Wrestling Superstore loves and supports indy wrestling. On our Weekly Wrestler Spotlight, Funkenstein will feature a star on the independent circuit we think you all need to know about! This week, Funkenstein’s Weekly Wrestler Spotlight features : TJ Marconi.

For someone who’s called “Mr. Good Times Only”, TJ Marconi puts in a lot of hard work. He started training in late 2009 with Andrew “Magic” Morgan. With encouragement from Morgan, Marconi continued to learn and train with others, including Nunzio, Matt Osborne, Samu, and Afa. He trains multiple times a week at both the Warriors of Wrestling (WOW) Training Center and ACE (American Championship Entertainment) Pro Wrestling School. All this training explains Marconi’s well-rounded wrestling ability, incredible agility for a man who is six feet, six inches tall, and why he carries himself with the poise of a veteran with much more experience.

Along with good times and hard work, Marconi believes in change and is a member of the “Crusade for Change” with “Wrestling’s Richest Prize” Mister Darius Carter. They’ve wrestled as team in WOW, but the Crusade is best known as being a force in Beyond Wrestling.   There, Marconi and Carter have partnered up with Dany Only and The M1nute Men (Tommy Trainwreck and Devin Blaze) to form a formidable quartet. The Crusade is looking to not only get the recognition they feel they deserve but also shake up Beyond, bringing it back to its roots, restoring it to what made it unique to begin with.

Marconi has become a staple of several Northeastern promotions. As mentioned above, he is a part of the Beyond roster. Before the Crusade was formed, Carter and Marconi were a tag team called Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. In their first match together, they defeated The Jollyville Fuck-its (Nasty Russ and T-Money) at “Pop Culture” on August 14th, 2010. But Marconi not only wrestled with Carter, but also in singles competition and scored wins over RD Evans and Chris Dickinson.

Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous would break up and become bitter rivals in 2012, which led to a “Last Man Standing” match at “All Aboard” on October 13th. Marconi was victorious. However, in 2013, he and Carter would reconcile and form the Crusade, wrestling in a ten team gauntlet at “Tournament for Tomorrow II” on November 17th, 2013. They would compete in the “Tournament for Tomorrow 3:16”, losing in the First Round to The Kimber Bombs (Cherry Bomb and KimberLee) on November 30th, 2014. Marconi and Carter would feud with a veteran tag team in The Garden State Gods (Corvis Fear and Myke Quest).

The Crusade’s attitude would anger some of the Beyond originals. The Gods and The Symbiote (Davey Vega and Rickey Shane Page) would team up in a “Five on Four Handicap War Games” match at “The Real Thing” on May 31st against all five members of the Crusade. Anthony Stone would return to help defeat the Crusade, but they were undaunted in their attempts to change and bring chaos to Beyond.

Instead of competing as two tag teams, the Crusade split up and competed as singles competitors in the “Tournament for Tomorrow 4” on November 28th, 2014 The idea being that they would divide and conquer. Unfortunately, none of them made it past the First Round. Marconi was defeated by Ryan Galone, but he and Carter would defeat Team Tremendous (Bill Carr and Dan Barry) and Colt Cabana and Dick Justice in a three way the next night.

In 2014, Marconi started to make his presence felt in other tri-state area promotions, debuting for WOW, and New York Wrestling Connection (NYWC). In his debut at “WOW/FSW Fallout” in March, he teamed with Joey Ace in a four-way match for the tag team titles. In November at “Warrior’s Revenge”, he would get a chance at WOW’s No Limits title, then held by Ace, who would retain. Marconi would start wrestling at NYWC in November, debuting in a six-way match won by Monsta Mack.  He would also wrestle at Combat Zone Wrestling’s Dojo Wars #15 on December 3rd, losing to Joe Gacy and return for Dojo Wars #18 in January 2015 in a six on six tag team match.

In 2015, Marconi would debut at House of Glory (HOG) and Five Boroughs Wrestling (FBW). He became a mainstay of WOW and proved himself there in singles and tag team action, teaming with Carter and forming The Brother Club with another big man in Stockade. Marconi would feud with “The Hostile Collective” (Abdul Nasir, Harley, and John Cannon) in singles matches and then as a tag team with Benjamin Quinn. However, his greatest success was making it to the finals of the “King of New York” tournament on September 12th. He defeated JGeorge, Jigsaw, and Matt Striker in the First Round and Cannon in the Semi-finals, before losing to Logan Black in the Final.

Marconi made his debut in ACE in February 2015, losing to Eddie Kingston at “A Hero’s Celebration”. He would quickly rise however and begin a rivalry with Vince Steele, the ACE Heavyweight Champion. At “Collision Course” on September 9th, he defeated Steele to win the title and has had successful title defenses over Ricky Reyes, Tommy Dreamer, and Dan Maff.

This past year has brought Marconi a number of new opportunities and with that more successes. He is still the current ACE Champion and his goal is to be the greatest in the company’s history, plus he’s becoming a force in WOW. “The Crusade for Change” is slowly changing Beyond and starting to spread to other promotions. If he can continue to build on momentum gained this year, Marconi’s star will only rise in 2016.
